Alopecia Awareness Month 2020

Having Alopecia for over 20 years was my little secret and “shame” to bear. The thought of not having hair was very hard to accept, especially when all I wanted to do was style my hair into a messy bun. Battling this autoimmune disorder felt lonely and dim. But let me tell you, when you have an amazing support system darkness is always overpowered by light and in that light is where I found courage and strength. I would have never thought in a million years I’d be celebrating something that I thought I would never accept.

Alopecia Areata Awareness Month is a time where we highlight and embrace our baldness as it doesn’t define us but empowers and encourages us not only as an individual but as a community. No matter what stage you’re in with your walk with alopecia, never compare your beginning to someone else’s end as we are all uniquely and wonderfully made. For every strand I lost and for every scar I gained, these became my blessings, as I am a part of a community marked by beauty, bravery and boldness!
